Mental Health Awareness Training

Thursday 7th April 2022 10 am – 12pm Just like our bodies can sometimes suffer poor health, so can our minds. Good health not only entails our physical wellbeing but also our mental and emotional wellbeing. So, what is mental health? Mental health comprises our emotional, psychological and social well-being.  It affects how we think, feel and act. Our mental health determines how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Having good mental health is just as important as having good physical health. The aim of this interactive workshop is to heighten awareness of common mental health problems such various anxieties and depression and how we can support ourselves and others by recognising the signs of poor mental health and highlighting ways to avoid and address problems associated with poor mental health. Self-Care

Thursday 14th April 2022 10am – 12pm The idea of self-care is becoming increasingly popular, but what does it mean and how do we go about ensuring we are adequately looking after ourselves? Self-care is not about believing that being super busy is a badge of honor and making yourself so exhausted that you self-sabotage in ways that aren’t actually good for you. It’s about taking time to take care of yourself because you truly know that you aren’t broken and don’t need fixing. Once you start doing the real self-care, you start realizing that loving yourself and compassionately being there for you might just solve many of your problems. This workshop will explore the need for and importance of selfcare – its impact on the brain, body, our relationships and our levels of productivity. Professional Boundaries

Wednesday 11th May 2022 10 – 12.30pm The Mustard Tree (training room) This session explores how voluntary sector staff and volunteers can set professional boundaries when working with mental health challenges. These boundaries can support our work and provide a safe and secure environment from which to work with our service users. These sessions will support us to be mindful of when it is appropriate to self-disclose, the danger of too much self-disclosure and the risks of transference and counter transference. The aim is to enable service users to take charge of their wellbeing by providing opportunities for growth and self-development. Sign up here: https://startingpoint.org.uk/events/

Emotional Boundaries

Wednesday 29th June 2022 10 – 12.30pm The Mustard Tree (training room) This session explores how as volunteers and voluntary sector staff we can set up emotional boundaries that support our own wellbeing within our work. When supporting others, we need to understand how to put our own self-care in place to avoid burnout and compassion fatigue and to identify when our wellbeing is being compromised.
