Mentoring

What is Mentoring?

Providing one-to-one support for a young person facing disadvantage, to enable them to see lasting transformation, and support them on a journey to a brighter and more hopeful future. We do this through carefully matching a young person to a mentor who acts as a consistent role model, tailoring the support to each individuals’ unique needs and aspirations.

What does mentoring involve?

Our mentoring has a relational and holistic approach focusing on practical support, such as CV writing or interview skills, and social-emotional support, such as building confidence and self-esteem.

Mentoring takes a relational, tailored, and holistic approach, focusing on both practical and wellbeing support. Mentors offer support to each young person depending on their needs, such as:

  • Attaining and sustaining education, employment, and training
  • Growing in positive engagement in school and the local community
  • Steering away from crime, violence, and risk-taking behaviour
  • Developing positive social-emotional development and wellbeing
Where and When?

Mentoring sessions primarily take place in public locations such as cafes. However, mentoring also takes place at our centrally based mentoring hub for young people who may feel uncomfortable meeting in a public environment.
All mentoring sessions usually take place weekly, at a time and day that is convenient for both the young person and their mentor.

Local Young People

We intentionally seek to provide 1:1 long-term support for young people who are ‘most in need’ and ‘hardest to reach’. We enable each young person to take ownership over their own journey, recognising each has their own unique strengths and skills as well as barriers and challenges.

Local Volunteers

We recruit, train and equip a diverse pool of skilled volunteer mentors. We tailor a match to each young person based on shared interest, lived experience or professional aspirations. This ensures the mentor is both a trusted adult, and acts a role model in the young person’s life.

Local Communities

We partner and collaborate with local communities to create opportunities for young people to thrive. This includes local authorities, the police, NHS, schools/colleges, third sector organisations and faith groups. We are committed to a shared goal with our partnering organisations in enabling young people to see transformation in their lives.
